Our most wheelchair-friendly guest room
Experience the warmth of our hospitality in our universally accessible (wheelchair-friendly) room. This room can also be interlinked to the neighbouring room, allowing free movement between rooms without compromising privacy.
It was decided early on that Somerset View Guest House would have at least one room specially dedicated to the use of people living with disabilities.
With this in mind, Carl was out on errands in Somerset West when his path crossed with Brandon Beack, a dedicated and highly talented young wheelchair athlete that competes in professional wheelchair sprints around the world. When asked if he would mind availing time to visit the new guest house and test out the features and layout, he graciously agreed.
The result is a room that is sure to offer comforts tailor-made to ensure universal accessibility and user-friendliness to even those challenged with the constant use of a wheelchair. Brandon was also kind enough to allow us to take photos of him in the specialised room, as well as the main hallway, various entrances and the wheelchair ramp that leads from the main parking lot to the pool area. We trust the photos below will offer a sufficient glimpse into what we have implemented so far.
Proven, world-class accessibility by design
Before designs were finished for the 1 For All room, it was decided that the room should be tested by someone that understands the needs of disabled travellers. Brandon Beach, South African Olympic wheelchair athlete, was kind enough to lend his experience in this area, and through his input, a truly thoughtful room was created, geared towards guests with special needs.

Dedicated parking space near the door
Extra-wide sliding bathroom door for easy access
Shower commode available
Various handles and other amenities in the bathroom to add safety and ease of use
Private interlink to our 'A View 4 You' room, allowing an assistant or other helper to stay nearby (or for another family if two families wish to stay close together).
